What To Expect in a Cacao Ceremony
When we open up to receive the gifts of Mama Cacao she allows us to see and feel the world differently. She helps to open our hearts and lets us remember that we are unique, divine, and full of joy and shows us how to have unconditional love for ourselves and others. She helps us feel free to expand our creativity and self expression and connects us to ourselves and any activity we choose to go deep with. Cacao is a subtle yet powerful plant medicine. She creates bounding inspiration inside and many have huge life realisations at cacao ceremonies. Some people may report not feeling much at all. Cacao will help you to the door, but it is then up to you to walk through that door.
While in Costa Rica I was granted an incredible amount of inspiration while attending many different cacao ceremonies. I enjoyed ceremonies paired with ecstatic dance, music improvisation, singing circles, nature walks, meditation, sound therapy and art therapy. Dancing has always been an amazing tool for me to jump out of my thinking mind, let go with the music and move the body in any way that feels good. The work I have done with Movement Medicine and Shamanic Trance Dance has given me a new connection to dance, like never before. As the cacao helps with creativity and self expression, dance is such a powerful pairing. Cacao has also helped me to truly open my voice to sing again, I hid this part of me for so long, but now I have realised the power of sharing our voices together in ceremony. I begin and end with a meditation to help us to drop into the heart space, and let go of the chatter we all have from our busy lives. My aim is to relax people to a state where they can reduce their stress levels and feel more love and gratitude for themselves, others and life.
There is something so healing about bringing community together with an intention. In my ceremonies, we will sit in circle while we share and learn about cacao. I like to share themed ceremonies, sometimes with a collective intention. In the past I have held ceremonies such as a gratitude dance, a chakra or element dance, awakening your sensuality for women, Earth Wisdom (deepening our connection with Mother Earth), creative flow workshops, song circles, and sharing circles. I find rituals, exercises and meditations to share which will complement the theme and often collaborate with other beautiful souls to offer an even deeper experience.
Many will feel the power of this heart opening medicine and work with the intention in the group to come into more balance and harmony with one’s self. Deepening that love and connection we have with ourselves, others and Mother Earth. When this happens our intuition can become alive again and we have the power to bring in what we need to feel whole. Song, dance, sharing and community helps to lower stress levels, and brings us to embodiment which creates a beautiful space inside us to heal.
