A list of my own cupboard essentials

There is a balance to be found between eating good natural healthy food and enjoying yourself. Here is some information to help you make decent choices when it comes to your health. You’ll need cupboards full of good, basic, non-perishable ingredients and a freezer stocked with a few key ingredients so you can create a healthy tasty meal at any point!

If you need help finding any of these products, try your local health food store and/or a local farmers market





extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, sesame seed oil, real butter



Raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar



Tamari (wheat free soya sauce), mustard, fish sauce



Sea salt, black peppercorns



Oranges, apples, avocados, lemons, limes, dates, dried apricots



Onions, sweet potato, carrots



Dried oregano, dried bay leaves, keffir lime leaves, herb de Provence, dried thyme, dried rosemary, dried dill, dried basil



Garlic, fresh ginger, fresh turmeric, dried chillies, whole nutmeg, ground cinnamon, fennel seeds, coriander seeds, turmeric, cayenne pepper, cumin seeds, garam masala, curry powder, smoked paprika



Organic – no need to keep them in fridge



Coconut flour, ground almonds



Maple syrup, raw honey, coconut palm sugar


Other Baking

Raw cacao powder, baking soda, vanilla extract


Tins & Jars

Tomatoes, coconut milk, chickpeas, cannellini beans, kidney beans, butter beans, curry paste, tinned salmon/mackerel/sardines, olives, capers, tomato purée, sauerkraut.


Grains & Legumes

Oats, millet, quinoa, brown rice, lentils


Nuts & Seeds

Unroasted/unsalted almonds, cashews, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, sesame seeds


Stock (if not home made)

Organic chicken, vegetable and beef stock cubes (without MSG)



(Preferably home made) Natural yoghurt



Nettle, mint, green, chamomile, ginger lemon, rooibos



Peas, broccoli (mixed veg), mixed berries, chicken, red meat, fish, prawns, home made stock & soups, patties
